Concierto de Aranjuez

Sketches

of Spain:

a composition by

Joaquin Rodrigo…

new sounds

new experiences

new worlds

opening.

international,

cosmopolitan,

hungry for the new–

inhaling

the musical nuances

the cultures

growing in appreciation…

and maybe one day

a visit to España:

Grenada

and Aranjuez—

and a toast

under

the Iberian

moon.

I Wanna

i wanna see a concert

at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

I wanna buy a colorful ladies bike

and ride through the neighborhood

undaunted

with no pain

in these arthritic knees.

I wanna wave at parades,

eat ice cream

and popcorn

and laugh.

I wanna hear cool music

in the sun.

I wanna ‘beam’ over to Nairobi

without the plane ride.

i wanna smile uninhibited

for no reason.

I want the wind

in my hair

at San Francisco Bay—

the salty smell

of ocean,

the sense of freedom

the sound

of possibility—

I wanna

live!

Cambridge

in Cambridge

at that quasi hippie pad;

new

to the life,

but immersed.

that Gulf gas

station:

apartheid unchecked;

flower power, black power

and college life;

Tower of Power,

with Lenny Williams

blowing “You’re Still a Young Man”;

rebel on the run;

hiding from my mother; hurt.

entering new worlds

without interface

heedless,

but still

in Grace.

i cry

i cry.

i cry because

i am often confounded

by this world

that we

live in.

i cry at moments

of enlightenment,

at moments of fear,

at moments of hope.

i cry because

there is a sadness in me

that emerges unexpectedly,

i cry for loves lost

loves never found;

i cry

for moments of loneliness.

i cry for joy,

for hope,

for courage.

i cry for rage.

i cry for youth,

for stealth,

for poverty,

for wealth.

i cry for death,

i cry for life.

i cry for the babies

that i’ve held

inside

and outside

of my body.

i cry for fear,

i cry for hope,

i cry because laughter

brings me to tears;

i cry for days

i cry for years.

i cry for sun

i cry for rain

i cry for joy

cry

for

pain.
