Poem for Cheryl

there is a hole
that you
have left
gaping
in the atmosphere
of souls.
no one speaks
your name
or talks
of your smile
and Native black hair.
I see the faces of
your sons
and know their
pain is surely
hiding
as well
as evident
but I want to
remember you–
your daring spirit
your foolish-brave.
i want to speak
your name
out loud
and celebrate that
you lived,
not the tragedy
of your death.
Cheryl,
mother of
Timothy and Ryan
Cheryl, woman of
laughter and hope.
Cheryl,
past love of Shaun,
Cheryl,
friend, healer, dreamer.
Cheryl,
It
has
now
been
said.
